Wishes and Promises

Wishes

The strategy of wishing…many people think “perhaps, if I just ponder on an idea long enough, pick the right dandelion to blow wishes into the wind of hope, or find the right shooting star, surely I can make that wish a reality. ” Yet, despite all the effort, the wish didn’t come true. No doubt a sense of disappointment set in as you had to face life without what you had wished for, and maybe you sat in that disappointment for a while. Regrettably, wishes are misplaced trust into some magical realm of possibility; they are fleeting and usually not easily attainable. The fact is that waiting for a wish to come true can be a source of anxiety, stress, and even at times, depression.

Promises

A promise is a declaration of intent and follow-through. Promises signify hope and assurance of what is to come. Promises are an indication of expectation. Promises are designated declarations with intended action. Promises announce that something is going to happen. The greatest promise is a kept promise. The good news is that God created promises and He keeps them, we simply need to respond.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a set-apart life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
Because of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, affection, and love for others through God’s power. 2 Peter 1-7

As you exchange a wish for the hope of a promise, your perspective begins to change. Promises arise from the truth, Gods truth. Go after His promises. Pursue a life that is set-apart from only wishing something happens to trusting God for it. Good morals start with keeping in alignment with Gods word. When you make a promise to someone, keep it. Be patient for promises; waiting is a way to draw closer to God as you build trust in Him. Promises are found in knowing that Gods words teaches, transforms, saves, and restores things once only wished for in one’s life.
